Cristiano Ronaldo Joins Forces with Binance for Exciting New NFT Collection Amid Ongoing Legal Disputes
Renowned Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has announced a new collaboration with Binance for the launch of his fourth non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The upcoming collection, set to debut on May 29 on the Binance NFT Marketplace, will showcase key moments from Ronaldo’s impressive career, as outlined in a recent blog post by Binance.
“My journey in football has taken me all over the world, and I’ve had the privilege of playing for some of the most prestigious clubs,” remarked Cristiano Ronaldo. The exact number of NFTs in the collection has not been disclosed, and pricing details are yet to be unveiled. However, it has been revealed that each “Normal NFT” will be priced the same, while the final Super Rare NFT will have a unique pricing structure.
Previous NFT events featuring Cristiano Ronaldo have provided exclusive opportunities for holders, such as the chance to play football with the legendary player as part of Binance promotions. Despite these exciting developments, the football star has been entangled in legal issues related to his NFT collection sales with Binance. In November 2023, Ronaldo faced a class-action lawsuit in a United States district court in Florida, alleging his involvement in the offer and sale of unregistered securities with Binance.
The legal challenges faced by Ronaldo coincide with Binance’s growing regulatory troubles on a global scale. Last year, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) brought charges against Binance for allegedly operating an illegal digital asset derivatives exchange and violating federal laws. Similarly, the US Securities and Exchange Commission charged Binance Holdings LTD and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) for running unregistered exchanges and offering securities without proper registration.
As the legal battles continue, Ronaldo’s collaboration with Binance for the new NFT collection signals a continued interest in the NFT space, despite the industry facing challenges, as seen with companies like Starbucks and GameStop discontinuing their NFT programs. It remains to be seen how Binance will navigate its regulatory troubles while continuing to support high-profile collaborations like the one with Cristiano Ronaldo.
