The annual gathering of the Ordinals community, dedicated to all things Bitcoin and the growth of the Runes ecosystem, showcased over a dozen exciting news announcements concerning global adoption and development.

Held at the Soho in Hong Kong, the full-day event attracted nearly 1000 attendees and brought together a diverse community of Bitcoin enthusiasts, including builders, leaders, investors, and founders, all working towards what was dubbed “season 2” of Bitcoin. Ordinals 2024 concluded successfully, featuring hands-on sessions, networking opportunities, and insightful discussions on topics such as Bitcoin Inscriptions, token standards, Ordinals, and Runes.

Among the prominent speakers representing the future of Bitcoin were Casey Rodarmor, the creator of Ordinals Protocols and Runes, and over 100 industry leaders. This included Jason Lau, chief innovation officer at OKX, the co-founders of Taproot Wizards Udi Wertheimer and Eric Wall, Tyler Whittle, their head of product, Evan Auyang, group president of Animoca Brands, Viktor Ihnatiuk, a core contributor to Runes Dex, Zhuoxun Yin, co-founder and COO of Magic Eden, Benjamin Charbit, CEO of Darewise and Special Council at Opal, as well as founders and leaders from notable projects like Merlin Chain, Botanix Labs, Xverse, and Unisat.

Venture capital leaders, including Yushan Zheng, Founding Partner at Waterdrip Capital, Trevor Owens, Managing Partner at Bitcoin Frontier Fund, and Adrian Lai, Founder & Managing Partner at Newman Capital, led discussions on the global investment landscape for Bitcoin-based startups. According to reports, 2024 has witnessed significant capital inflows into the market, with Bitcoin-backed projects like Botanix Labs raising over $8.5M earlier this year.

Leonidas, co-founder of Ordi.io and the initiator of Runestone, the largest airdrop in Bitcoin’s history, shed light on why NFTs and meme coins on Bitcoin are meaningful and how investors can maximize their potential during the crypto bull cycle of 2024.

Key takeaways from Ordinals 2024 included several major announcements, such as the rise of Bitcoin and investment opportunities in Asia. These discussions revolved around the growing adoption within the BTC landscape and covered topics like the significance of Inscription #452 and BIP-420, different approaches to scalability and programmability of Bitcoin, developments in the BRC ecosystem, token standards on Bitcoin, the impact of Ordinals on Bitcoin mining, and more.

Jeff Yin, the founder of Merlin Chain, also delivered a keynote session on expanding native Bitcoin innovation from layer-1 to layer-2. The event concluded on an exciting note with presentations by Casey Rodarmor, Benjamin Charbit, and the event’s host and organizer, Jan Smejkal.

Bitcoin’s mission has always been to create economic freedom, and this vision is fully supported by founders and investors who are developing on the chain. Their goal is to make Bitcoin’s native layer-1 technology fast, frictionless, and the preferred choice for thousands of startups worldwide.
