MetalCore, an MMO combat game developed by former developers from Activision, Disney, Lucasfilm, and Midway, has announced a partnership with the universal gaming ecosystem Portal. Studio369, the game development company behind MetalCore, stated that Portal is a cross-chain gaming access point that allows users to consolidate all of their Web3 games, digital assets, and user accounts into one easily accessible location.
MetalCore and Portal are focused on eliminating onboarding barriers in the Web3 game industry. The blockchain onboarding experience is currently complex and fragmented across competing ecosystems, which hinders broader growth. By creating a consolidated ecosystem, MetalCore and Portal aim to open doors to millions of new users by simplifying the navigation of blockchain bridges and liquidity pools.
The partnership with Portal is a significant step in MetalCore’s mission to build a player-driven, interconnected ecosystem of gaming token utility. This ecosystem involves sustainable, interoperable economies and tokens that are integrated into the core gameplay loop. Players shape the outcome of the game, and their choices affect the narrative and economy.
Studio369 CEO Matt Candler praised Portal for its efforts in connecting the Web3 gaming ecosystem in a unique way. He believes that AAA titles are crucial for supporting growth in this space and that building such an ecosystem is at the cutting edge.
Studio369, comprised of Unreal Engine experts with extensive development and publishing experience, successfully raised $5 million for MetalCore in March. The funds will be used for continued development and upcoming features, including a dynamic mission system that utilizes AI to generate unique assignments and tasks. Additionally, the integration in the Immutable zkEVM ecosystem allows developers to deploy custom smart contracts and offer users a gas-free service.
MetalCore, winner of the Global Blockchain Show’s Best Blockchain Game of the Year and GAM3 2022 Award for Best Shooter Game, features an innovative ‘scanning’ system that allows players to obtain blueprints from fallen enemies, craft new weapons and vehicles, and convert them into Web3 assets for trading.
Portal, which recently partnered with Pixelmon and has an advisory board that includes Jamie King, co-founder of Rockstar Games, offers a range of services for users to engage with Web3 titles. This includes a wallet, companion app, multi-chain functionality, a launchpad, and a native token. The PORTAL token debuted this year with a valuation of $2.37 billion.
Justin Taylor of the Portal team expressed the importance of having innovative titles available through their platform. They want players to see Portal as the obvious access point for their favorite Web3 games.
