host Matt Zahab had an exclusive interview with Shant Kevonian, the Founder and CEO of the Web3 email platform EtherMail.
Kevonian highlighted the importance of email as one of the first widely adopted decentralized applications and emphasized the need for its evolution through Web3 technology.
He explained the advantages of using Web3 emails, how they serve as an entry point into the Web3 realm, and why the term ‘Web3′ will soon become obsolete.
Additionally, Kevonian discussed the recent launch of the EMT token and its impact on the email experience.
Email: A Pioneer in Decentralized Applications
Email plays a crucial role in modern society and has become an essential part of communication.
According to Kevonian, email was one of the first decentralized protocols to gain widespread adoption, especially in terms of communication.
He explained that communication helps people become familiar with new technologies, just like the telegraph and the phone did in the past.
However, the way people use email has changed with the emergence of new apps. It is now primarily used for professional communication by individuals and institutions.
Kevonian pointed out that email has evolved to have legal jurisdiction, as it can be used as evidence in court cases. It has become deeply ingrained in how we interact with various online platforms and has even become a form of identification.
Instead of becoming obsolete, email needs to evolve further, Kevonian argued.
“We believe that with the new blockchain and Web3 technologies, we can take email to the next level,” he said.
The Advantages of Web3 Email
Kevonian discussed the benefits of Web3-related emails, highlighting two significant advantages: privacy and reduced email volume.
He also emphasized that Web3 emails provide an excellent entry point for those curious about Web3 technology. Users don’t need to worry about wallets or complex terminology; they can simply create an email account.
On the other hand, Web2 email platforms have fundamental issues such as scams, phishing, and trust issues. Web3 technologies can address these problems effectively.
Furthermore, Kevonian pointed out that existing Web2 email platforms, such as Gmail, can read users’ emails and use the information for targeted advertising. Web3 technology prioritizes privacy and anonymity, offering an improved email communication experience.
By upgrading the email protocol through a familiar Web2 avenue, EtherMail aims to bring together the best of both worlds.
Kevonian stated, “We can improve the protocol, provide privacy, means of communication, and all of this in one beautifully packaged solution, which we call EtherMail.”
He also predicted that EtherMail is close to bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3, to the point where the distinction between the two will no longer be necessary. In the future, there will only be “the Internet.”
Launching a Token: A Challenging but Rewarding Process
EtherMail recently launched the EMT token, which Kevonian described as a challenging and arduous process.
He explained that launching a token legitimately involves patience, navigating regulatory channels, and working with various parties, including lawyers, accountants, and government institutions.
Additionally, it requires well-developed tokenomics and utility. Projects must demonstrate the utility of their token and ensure there is a demand for it.
Kevonian expressed gratitude for the collaboration with partners that made the EMT token launch possible.
He highlighted one of EMT’s significant features: preventing marketing abuse. With EtherMail, companies can only interact with users’ emails if they reward them with EMT. This system discourages companies from sending excessive irrelevant content and ensures that users’ consent is respected.
Kevonian concluded, “All parties are in a win-win situation.”
In the interview, Kevonian also discussed various topics such as the benefits and use cases of Web3 email, the choice of the Ethereum ecosystem for EtherMail, the potential of meme coins and NFTs, and the natural transition into Web3 as more companies embrace it.
