Anurag Arjun, one of the co-founders of Avail, recently sat down for an interview with Cryptonews to discuss the rebranding of Matic to Polygon and the future of blockchain technology. According to Arjun, the future of blockchain lies in rollups, and Avail is working on developing the necessary infrastructure to support this development.
When the team started working on Matic Network in 2017, they faced numerous challenges due to their small size and limited funding. However, they persevered and in 2020, rebranded to Polygon, expanding beyond the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) chain. Despite the name change, the MATIC token remained strongly correlated to the PoS chain.
Arjun believes that the construction of blockchains is going to change significantly, with most new blockchains being rollups. Before the establishment of Avail within the Polygon ecosystem, Arjun recognized the issue of data availability and the need for a solution. Ethereum also released a rollup-centric roadmap in 2019-2020, further emphasizing the importance of rollups.
Rollups are Layer-2 scaling solutions that process transactions away from the main blockchain. They allow for the creation of multiple rollups on top of a base layer, inheriting the security of the base layer. Arjun noted that rollups can be built on any blockchain, not just Ethereum.
To support this rollup-centric future, Avail is developing two essential components: Avail DA and Avail Nexus. Avail DA focuses on data availability, throughput, and verifiability, while Avail Nexus aims to provide interoperability between different rollups. The goal is to create a seamless experience for users, allowing them to move between chains without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.
Arjun also discussed the importance of a unification layer in the context of a rollup-centric future. This layer will eliminate the fragmentation of chains and ensure a smooth user experience. Avail Nexus will play a crucial role in achieving this unification.
In the interview, Arjun also touched on Avail’s work on Plasma in 2017, the co-founding of Matic Network, and the upcoming launch of Avail DA and Avail Nexus. Overall, he emphasized the need for infrastructure to support the rollup-centric future of blockchain technology.
