China and Shrapnel Launch First Licensed Web3 Game on Official RWA Chain

First-person shooter

SHRAPNEL will become China’s first licensed Web3 game built on the nation’s official RWA Trusted Copyright Chain.

SHRAPNEL is an AAA native Web3 blockchain shooting game by the team from HBO that has worked on globally known titles, such as Halo, Assassin’s Creed, and Star Wars.

It’s now joining hands with the Trusted Copyright Chain, a blockchain that allows government administrative bodies to certify digital assets and IP rights “to enable true digital ownership for all citizens.”

According to the press release, the team expects to launch the game this year. It will include a dedicated game launcher tailored for the Chinese market.

Furthermore, it will provide a marketplace built on the Trusted Copyright Chain. This will enable a suite of blockchain tools that help manage the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) in a compliant way.

Finally, the game will come with tokenized Shrapnel in-game IP cosmetic items. These will be available exclusively to Chinese players.

The press release argues that the creation of the RWA Copyright Chain highlights China’s readiness to digitize RWAs. It will start this process with the tokenization of Shrapnel IP.

“By putting legal records of its gaming assets on-chain, Shrapnel aims to pioneer with the Chinese government a new way of owning and trading digital assets that is fair and transparent,” the team says.

Additionally, this partnership is part of China’s move into the blockchain gaming space. Therefore, the collaboration “opens up new opportunities in the country’s multi-billion-dollar gaming market.”

Finally, it provides a compliant way for overseas high-quality content to enter the Chinese market, the team says.

Shrapnel Joins Hands With China’s Official Newspaper

Along with the RWA Trusted Copyright Chain partnership, Shrapnel has also reached a preliminary agreement with People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Government, via its digital subsidiary Lingjing Game Labs.

Established in 2024, Lingjing People’s Game Labs aims to foster a sustainable gaming industry, the announcement says. It builds platforms for cultural digital certification, digital asset transformation in games, game monitoring, and more.

The novel partnership will see government-compliant distribution of SHRAPNEL’s localized Web3 game in China. The subsidiary will also be responsible for digital asset minting, issuance, free trading, and localized operations.

Ken Rosman, CEO of Neon Machine, commented that “this milestone unlocks massive potential for both SHRAPNEL and Web3 gaming in China.” Furthermore, it “sets a strong precedent for how decentralized paradigms and a nation’s government can work together to drive growth on a global scale.”

Rosman suggested that there is more to come, saying “this is just the beginning.”

Meanwhile, per a blog post, on 8 March, SHRAPNEL’s team and investors attended the ‘Web3.0 Games and International Digital Copyright Cooperation’ seminar in Beijing. This is when they entered preliminary talks with the Lingjing Game Labs.

On 28 March, the team announced that the parties reached an agreement whereby Lingjing People’s Game Labs will help SHRAPNEL with the compliant issuance of digital assets, facilitate the introduction of game content, boost cultural integration, and explore sustainable development paths for Web3 games.

“The collaboration aims to provide innovative examples for the digital transformation of the gaming industry, with the first results expected to be realized in 2025,” the press release concluded.
