Worldcoin has announced that Argentina will now serve as its main hub of operations in the LATAM region. The company, known for its WLD token, is set to establish iris-scanning offices in over 50 locations across more than 10 cities in Argentina, as reported by Criptonoticias.
Following meetings with key government officials in Buenos Aires, including President Javier Milei, Worldcoin has set the stage for its expansion in the country. The company has already scanned the irises of over 500,000 Argentines within a span of 10 months. Despite facing scrutiny from lawmakers and regulators, Worldcoin centers have seen long queues of individuals eager to participate.
An unofficial market for reselling WLD tokens has emerged, with recipients exchanging their coins for fiat currency at 50% of their market value. Worldcoin has expressed its intention to establish Argentina as the central hub for its operations in Latin America. Two centers will be opened to educate citizens about the technology and the project.
The decision to focus on Argentina was made after discussions with President Milei in San Francisco, California. Martin Mazza, the regional manager of Worldcoin operator Tools for Humanity, cited Argentina’s advanced technological ecosystem and skilled workforce as key factors in selecting the country for development in artificial intelligence.
Mazza emphasized that Buenos Aires will become a regional hub and expressed the company’s desire to collaborate further with the Argentinean community to promote AI development and financial inclusion. This strategic move underscores the importance of Latin America for Worldcoin as it aims for continued growth.
In addition to Argentina, WLD is gaining popularity in other Latin American countries such as Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico. Expansion plans for Mexico were announced in April, following the company’s operations launch in July 2023. Worldcoin’s focus on Argentina highlights its commitment to the region and its vision for expansion.
